Fellow Strikers,
We are excited to announce a change in
our Director of Coaching position.
Andrew Ziemer has taken a part time
position as the U9-12 Competitive
Technical Director for the Ballistic
United Soccer Club in Pleasanton. At the
same time we are excited to announce
Owen Flannery as the new Strikers DOC.
Andrew stepped into a very unsettled
situation a year ago as DOC for our club
and has helped in solidifying and
strengthening the PDA, furthering the
club’s implementation of the Hoek Club
Concept with valuable training of our
coaches to emphasize age-appropriate
curriculum for training our children.
We hope to still have Andrew working in
some capacity with MP Strikers. We are
currently in discussions with Frans Hoek
and Andrew to define the Hoek program
for the next year. We expect Andrew to
continue to be an integral part of
implementing the summer camp.
We are thrilled to announce the hiring
of Owen Flannery as Director of Coaching
for MP Strikers. Owen will also remain
the DOC at Alpine FC and the Head
Women’s Coach at Foothill College. He’s
coached many teams at De Anza Force
soccer club, including the Force 91
Girls 2008 State Cup Champions. Owen
will bring his considerable experience,
knowledge and training perspective to
our club. Owen will also offer the same
innovative soccer training opportunities
that he has been implementing at Alpine,
including supplemental training in goal
keeping, individual skills, speed and
agility. In fact, Owen will be able to
expand those programs as DOC for both
clubs due to the larger pool of players
available.
Owen received his BS in Kinesiology from
San Jose State University, where he
played four years of varsity soccer on a
team ranked #1 nationally Owen
anticipates completing his Master`s in
Sports Psychology later this year. He
holds the following licenses:
United States Soccer
Federation A License
National Soccer Coaches Association of
America National Advanced License
National Soccer Coaches Association of
America Goalkeeper I & II
National Soccer Coaches Association of
America National Youth License and
Positive Coaching Alliance Double Gold
Club.
Owen served as Director of Soccer at
Menlo College from 2005-2007, where he
took the women`s team from 0-15 to a
California Pacific Conference
championship and was twice awarded Coach
of the Year honors.
As DOC of both the Strikers and Alpine,
Owen will enable both clubs to gain the
maximum benefit of the recently
announced strategic alliance. The
addition of Owen Flannery as DOC will
allow us to provide the best possible
soccer experience matched to the unique
needs of each child in our club, whether
for the elite player looking for the
best training and competition or the
player looking for a fun, competitive,
local soccer experience.
Please join us in welcoming Owen to our
club.
