MP Strikers and Alpine FC are thrilled
to announce a groundbreaking alliance to
provide a better experience for our
children. Through targeted initiatives
at specific age groups, both clubs
expect that every player will have a
local team at the appropriate level for
his or her interest and ability.
The two clubs have many common
qualities:
- they draw a vast majority of their
players from the mid-peninsula
communities of Menlo Park, Portola
Valley, Woodside, and Atherton
- neither club has enough players to
maintain Class 1 and Class 3 teams at
every age group; too often players must
leave our community to find a team at an
appropriate level of play
- many families have players in both
clubs and many players have played for
both clubs
As the players` interests and abilities
evolve as they grow, together both clubs
will be in a much better position to
provide a "home" for everyone who wants
to play from age 7 (or younger!) until
they graduate from high school.
Pooling the resources of both clubs will
also help support the programs we can
provide for the soccer development of
all of our children. Alpine FC Director
of Coaching Owen Flannery has created
innovative programs such as goalkeeping,
speed and agility, and preschool soccer.
MP Strikers offer the Dutch method of
training through the Hoek program to
maximize technique and individual
footwork skills. Together, we can
maintain and enhance these robust soccer
programs.
The two clubs’ boards have identified a
small number of age groups that would
benefit from targeted cooperation and
coordination of teams in the immediate
future, and will coordinate with the
appropriate team managers in the next
week or so. If you are a team manager
and you believe your age group would
benefit from this program, please
contact me.
Thank you for your support.
